Composition In Photography – The What, How And Why.

Composition In Photography – The What, How And Why.

  • A blog post/written thoughts based on conversations with participants during the Introduction To Photography course.

I’m no authority when it comes to composition, except when it comes to my work.

I’m just not talking about the photograph as a piece of work, but I’m talking about the work I did while in the process of making the photograph.

The work we do while being involved with what we do while making a photograph, has everything to do with our photograph.

When it comes to composition in photography, everything we do while in the process of creating that picture IS that picture in terms of the final version of that photograph.

If we think about the whats, hows and whys of what we do, we become as involved in our composition as possible.

While the whats hows and whys of what we do, may vary in the specifics of our camera and what we are making pictures of, here’s what I think we ALL do on a base level.

What we do is observe and record light.
How we do it is with usually with a camera.
Why we do it is to create an interesting photograph.

I’ll get into these in more detail in a series of follow up posts.
