Photography Equipment and Our Interest – Just Bring What We Got
Photography Equipment and Our Interest – Just Bring What We Got
This blog post was inspired by a conversation with Frank Agbro when he responded to a question about his 6ft. Aparty concerts by answering “Just bring what ya got”.
Photographers, what do we got?
Foundationally, we have a camera, or cameras, light-sensitive material to record light, and an interest in photography.
Of course, that’s all we need to make interesting pictures.
However, some useful additions would be a place to store our images and editing software.
But regardless of what we got or what we don’t got all we need to do as photographers is just bring what we got.
In truth, all that we got and all we need is our photography equipment and our interest in creating photographs
Our photography equipment and our interest
But, no matter what camera (even the camera on our phone) or other photography-related stuff that we have, we gotta learn to use what we got.
Furthermore, that doesn’t only apply to the hardware/equipment and software that we have.
We also need to learn how to effectively apply our interests.
Consequently, our interest in photography and the equipment that we use are the foundation and conduit of our studies and practice.
Last but not least, don’t forget that we need to thoughtfully integrate our photography equipment and our interest in photography while creating a photograph.
Frank’s advice
Specifically, Frank is a musician however his guidance resonates for us photographers too.
To explain, even though musicians express themselves with musical instruments and create sound, we (photographers) express ourselves with a camera and create a recording of light (a photograph).
In other words, just as a musician brings their equipment and interest in music in order to create music, we need to do the same.
To put it another way, when we integrate our photography equipment and our interest in creating photographs, the end result is a photograph.
Specifically, our unique photograph.
