Ya’ ever see something and you think that what you’re seeing would make a great photograph but what you see is so fleeting that you don’t have time to take out your camera to make the photograph?
Yup, me too. As Ferris Bueller said, “Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in awhile, you could miss it.”
As photographers, I would suggest that we shouldn’t look but, instead, we should see. As a photographer I’d put my own spin on the Ferris Bueller quote. “Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t see, you could miss it.”
Lots’a times I’ll see but I’ll miss making the picture because I didn’t respond fast enough with my camera. (SHIT!!)
After my brief self flagellation for missing the picture, I’ll realize that the biggest part of photography is seeing, and during my course of seeing if I’m attentive enough to organize everything my eyes are taking in while “life is moving pretty fast” into a photograph in my mind then I’ve just accomplished the most important part of what I do; seeing and organizing what I’m seeing with my eyes into a photograph in my mind.
