To Make Better Photographs, You’ve Got To Start Somewhere

If you want to go beyond point and shoot photography you’ve got to start somewhere.

Getting to know your camera and learning a few basic things about photography will get you off to a good start.

Simply learning the following three things will get you on the path to working your camera in manual mode and will make you a more thoughtful photographer. You will begin using your mind, instead of a machine, to create photographs.

Get the owner’s manual for the camera (make sure that it’s the full version of the manual) and learn about the following three things.

  1. Learn about the focusing modes on your camera.
  2. Learn how to use your camera in manual exposure mode.
  3. Learn about your camera metering modes/patterns.
