The pop-up flash on your camera will help you to make better photographs and can be used by you to learn the basics of flash photography.
Just keep in mind a couple of things.
- You need to be close enough to the subject that you want to light, but not too close or you’ll wash out your subject.
- You can control the brightness of the flash. Look for the feature on your camera called flash exposure compensation. It may also be called flash output or something similar.
If you’ve ever made a picture where someone is standing in front of a window, or sunrise/sunset, and the person has come out very dark, your flash is the fix.
If you have a separate flash unit please consider taking the Lighting With Portable Flash class.
