Change Your Mind-Not Your Camera To Be A Better Photographer
This post was inspired by working with photographers during my Introduction To Photography Class
We want to make better pictures
So what do we do?
As a result of wanting to make better pictures, many photographers think that getting a better camera will make them a better photographer.
And as tempting as this is, it just ain’t true.
What a better camera gets us
In, general If we get a better camera we’ll get a better quality file produced by the camera.
While this is beneficial, it doesn’t make us a better photographer.
In other words, we’re the same photographer with a better camera.
To put it another way, our camera has changed but our skill level hasn’t. Because all it makes us is the same photographer, with the same understanding of photography.
Except now, we got a better camera.
To rephrase it, we got a better camera, a debit in our bank account or a charge on our credit card and we still don’t understand what we’re doin’ as photographers.
In addition, we wind up usin’ our “better camera” in the same way we used our former camera.
In summary, we got a better camera but our photography ain’t any better.
If ya wanna be a better photographer change the way you think while being a photographer.
In other words, regardless of the camera that you’re usin’
(and yup, that includes the camera on your phone)
think about what you’re doin’ with your camera to compose your photograph.
