Washington DC Fall Foliage, Architecture, and Street Photography Excursions

While participating in the Washington, DC, Fall Foliage and Photography Excursions, you’ll learn to use your camera intentionally. You’ll finish this excursion with a good understanding of the relationship between camera operation and composition. You will also create pictures of some of Washington, DC’s most visually exciting areas.

We’ll meet outside the Q Street exit of the Dupont Circle Metro stop at the top of the escalators.

Start using your camera thoughtfully and make engaging photographs of the colorful autumn urban scenery of Washington, DC!

  • Be a better photographer by learning to think like a photographer.
  • Get the best pictures possible by involving yourself in the compositional thought process.
  • Stop “pointing and shooting” and start composing thoughtful photographs.
  • Learn to “make” photographs instead of taking photos.

During the Washington, DC, Fall Foliage and Photography Excursion, we’ll learn to think like photographers and use our cameras thoughtfully and intentionally to make the best pictures possible. 

Washington DC Fall Foliage, Architecture, and Street Photography Excursions – What You’ll Learn

The Washington DC Fall Foliage and Photography Excursions introduce basic photographic principles and a compositional thought process that allows participants to understand how to make the best pictures possible using whatever cameras they use. Discussions and practical application exercises will be related to the participant’s camera operation and composition. When the excursion ends, participants will create more thoughtfully composed photographs.  We’ll use our cameras intentionally and rely more on our mind, instead of a machine, to make a photograph instead of taking a photo.

  • How to create the best pictures that you can
  • About exposure
  • About focusing
  • About metering
  • Thoughtful and effective composition
  • Observing and describing light

How You’ll Learn During Class

During the DC Fall Foliage and Photography Excursions, you’ll learn by becoming familiar with your camera’s functions that influence composition and practicing taking pictures during the class.

How You’ll Learn After Class

Before the excursion ends, Sam will guide students in practicing what they learned during the trip.
