If Our Pictures Are Good Enough To Use
Then they’re good enough to pay for.
The Way Photographers Make Money
As professional photographers, we should be in this business to make money. Specifically we’re paid for our time, expenses and a fee for using our work (usage fee).
Some photographers starting out feel uncomfortable charging for their work. In addition, some people look for inexperienced photographers to do work. Frequently people look for inexperienced photographers to do cheaply or for free. Instead of pay, they offer the photographers “exposure” or experience.
It’s Our Business We Can Do What We Want
Sometimes, if we’re not confident in our skills, we might consider doing the work for free. We may work for free to get some practical experience or some pictures for our portfolio. That makes sense. But at the very least we should recover our expenses. But in my mind recovering our expenses ain’t enough. In addition, we should get in the habit of realizing the value of our time and the value of the use of our work.
We should be pricing the job in terms of time, expenses and use fees. If we’re not confident in our skills, we may wanna eat the cost of out time. Regardless, expenses and a usage fee should be paid.
If Our Pictures Are Good Enough To Use …
Then they’re good enough to pay for. When a client reaps the rewards of using our work, we should reap the rewards of being paid for our work. Because if our pictures are good enough use, then our pictures are good enough to paid for.
