How To Study And Practice Camera Operation

Always think of what you’re doing with your camera as an important element of your process as a photographer.
As a result, you’ll begin to see that everything that you do with your camera has an effect on your composition.
And as I’ve said before, forget rules of composition.
Because rules are limiting.
On the other hand, elements are building blocks and building blocks are expansive.
To repeat EVERYTHING we do with our camera is an element of composition and has a direct result on the outcome of our photograph.
What do we do with our camera?
That’s a great question.
In short, we use our camera as a tool to make a photograph.
However, we need to observe what we do with that tool in order to make a picture.
In addition, we need to learn how what we do with that tool effects our pictures.
Because when we understand how what we do with our camera effects our composition, we can use camera operation as a thoughtful element of our composition.
How to study and practice camera operation
Now that we’ve talked about the importance of camera operation as composition, we’ve gotta talk about how to study and practice this.
In short, it’s easy.
Because all you need to do is pay attention.
Specifically, pay attention to what you do with your camera to accomplish specific intent of composition.
You’ll also need to learn how to work your specific camera to accomplish specific intent of composition.
I’ll talk about “intent of composition” in a future, related post.
In the meantime, here’s some homework.
The intent of this homework is to get you using the owners manual to your camera effectively.
Because when we learn to use our camera as a tool that allows us to create photographs, we begin to use that tool with the specific intent in terms of composing a picture.
