The Way We Speak And The Rules Of Photography

The Way We Speak And The Rules Of Photography

  • A blog post/written thoughts based on conversations with participants during the Introduction To Photography class.

Assuming we know the language, if we freely express ourselves with our words, we’ll express ourselves in our own unique way with our own choice of words.

Photography is a visual language.

If we freely express ourselves with our camera, we can express ourselves in our own unique way with our own choice of elements of composition.

What is free expression?

Expressing without rules.

Imagine if every time we spoke, the rules of speaking said that in order for us to express ourselves in the most effective way verbally was to have each sentence that came outta our mouth be limited to only certain words, a prescribed number of words, in a prescribed order, spoken at a certain speed and pitch.

That’s what rules of composition do to your photography.
