Drawing Inspiration – Lucian Perkins
Drawing Inspiration is a series of posts dedicated to photographers who have inspired me.
If possible, I’ve included a quote and a link to their work.
“It has both strengths and weaknesses. The variety of assignments is an important strengths. A weakness is the danger that it can stifle you. If you’re not careful, you can lose sight of your own style. Newspapers tend to want very tight shots. In order to avoid getting trapped in that style, I constantly re-evaluate for myself what I am doing. Fortunately, a lot of barriers have been broken down in the last few years, particularly at The Washington Post. We have a very diverse team shooting exciting stuff, and the newspaper is going for it. It´s opening itself up to different styles, using images that would have been rejected before.” – Lucian Perkins – on the question: “In the light of your preference for in-depth coverage, does newspaper photography really suit you?”, World Press Photo 1996 by World Press Photo Foundation (Editor), World Press Photo Foundation , Page: 9
