Photography Classes Washington DC – About The Sam D’Amico Photography Classes

Thank you for considering me in your search for photography instruction.

It doesn’t matter whether you use a film or digital camera. The camera is a tool that you use to create photographs.

During your photography class with me you’ll learn to use your camera and you’ll learn the skills that you need to use your camera effectively and with confidence.

If you’re just getting started or a more advanced photographer, I offer a variety of photography courses that are geared toward a wide range of skill levels and interests.

All of the courses are designed and instructed by me and each class is limited to eight students so I can focus my attention on you.

My approach to teaching has been shaped by my photography teachers and by my experience working as a professional photographer. While I learned a lot about the craft of photography from good teachers, I learned to be a photographer by using my camera and mindfully applying what I learned from my teachers during the process of creating a photograph.

I think the best way to learn something is to learn by doing it and I make sure that we have plenty of time to practice what we cover during our time together in class. If you’re in a multi-week class, you’ll get homework too. Homework aimed at getting you to utilize the lessons we cover in class so you can create photographs that are uniquely your own.

As a participant in my photography classes you’ll get a good understanding of the material being presented in addition to hands on practical experience. What you won’t get are my judgments about your work, instead you’ll be encouraged to formulate your own opinions about your work and then I’ll offer you guidance based on your personal goals in photography.

Whether you are using a film SLR, a digital SLR (DSLR ), or another type of camera, I’ll help you to be the best photographer that you can be.

Courses are offered in Washington, DC or online. Private instruction and custom group workshops are also available. You can see an overview of instruction alternatives here —>

Payment for registration is handled securely online by using your credit or debit card.

Do you do any classes for teens (say 14-16 years old)?

    • David,

Thank you for your interest in my photography classes.

While I don’t offer group classes specifically for teens, any age is welcome to any class as long as they can participate with the rest of the class. Without knowing more about, what type of camera the person is working with and something about the incoming skill level of the student, I’m reluctant to suggest any course of instruction.

Please give me a call at 202-531-2344 to discuss what course of study would be appropriate.

      Best Regards,

    Good evening, Sam:

I am interested in your Introduction to Photography class. Are you at capacity for the February 6 class? I have a Nikon D5300 with a Nikkor 18-140MM zoom lens and need to learn how to use this thing properly! I read your philosophy about capturing moments in time and taking photos that are not posed (whereby the subjects are not necessarily aware that they are being photographed). I have been doing this for the last number of months, but have no idea how to work my settings or even properly frame a picture. Even still, somehow I have managed to take some okay pics so far.

Let me know about the Feb 6 class. I would really like to join if there is still room.

    Thanks so much!

My name is Yejide and I will be in your Getting to know your camera class on Thursday, March 27th. I do not have my camera’s owners manual, however, I can access it through the computer. If necessary I can print out a section of it.

    Thank you,
